AFL Goldfields general manager Rod Ward said a special meeting of MCDFNL delegates had been scheduled for Tuesday, September 4.
Ward said members of the club would conduct a presentation at the meeting before clubs were given a couple of weeks to vote on whether or not to allow the Bulldogs entry into the league for the 2019 season.
If denied clearance from the Central Highlands league or entry into the MCDFNL, Smythesdale then has the option of taking the matter to the AFL Goldfields commission, which could grant the shift.
The Central Highlands competition has been Smythesdale’s home since moving from the defunct Lexton Plains league at the end of 2010.
After battling on-field for years, the Bulldogs have not fielded a senior football side during the past two seasons.
In 2017 and 2018, Smythesdale’s only open age football team played in the reserves and finished both campaigns in 12th spot on the ladder.
The club fields a full compliment of sides in the Central Highlands Netball League, but failed to reach finals in any divisions this season.
