The app that is taking fashion entrepreneurs and clothing industry by a storm, stands by the name of Depop. This online market platform holds 10 million users, selling their second-hand and handmade products to the public.

Young entrepreneurs use this app to sell and buy other unwanted clothes with many users featuring brands such as: Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Levi’s, and not to mention bangin’ statement pieces and handmade items.

Depop representative Tainá Vilela shared the company’s thoughts on the current fashion movement, saying “fashion is reaching a tipping point where we start realising that mindless consumption is destroying the planet and lives”.

“I think that is taking us back to movements like streetwear, which is really connected to the DIY idea, but also to valuing second hand and the story behind the clothes we wear,” Ms Vilela said.

“This makes people value uniqueness, so in my opinion, in the long term, trends are likely to die and give more space to individuality and personalisation.”

Depop also mentioned it’s targeting age group is between the ages of 14 and 24, giving youth a platform to express, and take ownership, in their lives.

So maybe next time, as you window shop for the fifth time in a week and see that brand new item you’re willing to spend all your money on…search it up. You never know if you might get it for half the price and in perfect condition.

This one’s hipster, it’s 80’s glam and Queen of all Op Shops. While these are a more expensive choice for clothes shopping, the finds here are without competition.

Vintage stores stock designer items, ranging from battered to perfect conditions and cater for all age demographics unlike the app platforms.
