Payne suffered a suspected fractured jaw in a contest against Darley in Saturday’s preliminary final.

Kangaroos coach Jake Bridges said with the full extent of the injury still to be known, Payne remained optimistic about getting the all clear to play.

He said he would be monitored during the week.

Aden Nestor (ankle) appears to be Point’s other main injury concern, although Bridges was not too worried.

Mickitja Rotumah-Onus, who had been under an injury cloud, was called into the East Point side after initially being named an emergency.

He missed the second semi-final after surgery on a broken finger following the qualifying final.

Rotumah-Onus, who wore a guard on his left hand to protect the finger, was among East Point’s better players early – kicking two goals, including a memorable one from a snap after Matt Johnston kicked into the man on the mark on the back of a 50m penalty in the first quarter.

Although Rotumah-Onus was a showing a little discomfort after the match, he pulled up well.

Jordan Johnston received a knock to a shoulder, but was able to play through momentary soreness to be one of the Roos’ most effective players.

Darley went into the game without Jake Edwards, who did not play in any of the Devils’ three finals.
