YOUNG people in Maryborough will have easier access to medical advice and health support as the Doctors in Secondary Schools program extends to the region.

A doctor and nurse will attend Maryborough Education Centre one day each week to help young people identify health problems early, including mental health.
Maryborough District Health Services chief executive officer Terry Welch having a doctor on site aimed to help increase the chance young people receive the health treatment they need and reduce the pressure on working parents to get students to a doctor outside school hours.
“(We are) always looking at ways to enhance the health and well-being of our community,” Mr Welch said.
This follows a government roll-out across schools, in partnership with Western Victoria Primary Health Network, to address the issue young people had some of the lowest GP attendance rates in the state.
Mount Clear College was involved in the pilot program, having already hosted a doctor on campus for a decade to help fill a gap in student access to health services.
