An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson has confirmed a teenage boy has been flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious condition after a three car collision in Smythes Creek on Tuesday afternoon.
The spokesperson said his injuries were not yet known.
Five other patients were assessed at the scene.
A man in his 20s was transported to the Ballarat Base Hospital with back and neck injuries in a stable condition, according to the Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
A man in his 30s was transported to the Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition with back, arm and leg injuries.
A teenage girl was also transported to Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition with arm injuries.
Two other patients, a women in her 50s and a man in his 40s, were assessed the scene. It is understood they have not been transported to hospital.
EARLIER 7pm:
Ballarat police say they are continuing to investigate a three car collision at Smythes Creek on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting Sergeant Matthew Rhodes confirmed one 14-year-old has been flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Three other people have been transported to the Ballarat Base Hospital for an official assessment, he said.
One other person involved in the collision was assessed at the scene and was able to return home.
Investigations into the collision that happened at the intersection of Bells Road and Cherry Flat Road around 4.30pm are ongoing.
“We are still trying to determine exactly what happened as there were no real witnesses,” Acting Sergeant Matthew Rhodes said.
“We are still to speak to everyone at this stage.”
EARLIER 6.30pm:
A teenager is being flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital by air ambulance following a three car collision in Smythes Creek.
The teenager has face and leg injuries but her condition is not yet known, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
Two people have been transported to the Ballarat Base Hospital by road ambulance, the spokesperson said.
Their condition and the extent of their injuries is not yet known.
Paramedics were called to the collision at the intersection of Bells Road and Cherry Flat Road just after 4.30pm.
They assessed five people at the scene, a women in her 50s, a man in his 40s, a man in his 30s, a man in his 20s, a teenage girl and a teenage boy.
The condition of the patients who have not been transported to hospital is not yet known, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
Meanwhile, paramedics have assessed a man in his 50s at the scene of a car rollover on the Western Freeway in Pentland Hills.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the rollover which involved a caravan at 5pm.
The man in his 50s was not transported to hospital by ambulance, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
The crash happened in the Melbourne-bound lanes.
It is understood Melbourne-bound lanes of the freeway have been reopened.
EARLIER 6.10pm:
Roadblocks have been set up on Bells Road and Cherry Flat Road following the three car crash at the intersection about one kilometre south of the Delacombe Town Centre.
An air ambulance remains on scene as four patients are assessed after the accident shortly before 5pm.
Meanwhile, the Western Freeway was reopened east-bound at 6.15pm.
EARLIER 5pm
THE air ambulance has been called to a multi-car collision at the corner of Cherry Flat Road and Bells Road in Smythes Creek.
Paramedics on the scene have confirmed that four people, a man in his 30s, a man in his 20s and a teenage boy and girl are being assessed.
It is not yet known how serious the injuries are.
Emergency services have asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.
Meanwhile emergency services are also on the scene of an accident on the Western Freeway, west of Bacchus Marsh, involving a caravan.
The crash happened in the Melbourne-bound lanes.
Details of injuries are not yet known.
Road blocks are in place on the freeway and Melbourne-bound motorists can expect delays.
