‘The Blake Mysteries’ will be coming back on our screens as a Channel Seven telemovie.
Filming wrapped on the production earlier this year, and George Adams, the show’s creator and showrunner, couldn’t be more excited for the eventual premiere.
“Everything went remarkably well.
“It was a very fast process and we’re just ready for our audience to let us know what they think,” he said.
The show will move towards a shift in focus to a more murder mystery type of story telling, with Nadine Garner’s Jean Blake taking centre stage in the primary mystery solving role.
The new iteration of the popular show will jump forward three years since the culmination of season five to 1963, shortly after the JFK assassination.
“This is certainly more of a political mystery, rather than our previously more police-focused episodes.”
“I think we have moved more towards something like the Agatha Christie Miss Marple murder mysteries.”
While no official release date has been revealed, he is sure fans will not have to wait much longer to see their favourite characters return.
“Channel Seven has been so supportive throughout the whole experience.
“We know they’re excited about the release, so I think we’ll know about the release date very soon.”
Formerly ‘The Doctor Blake Mysteries’ the show’s future had been up in the air for a period following Craig McLachlan’s departure due to allegations of lewd behavior during the 2014 production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Going forward, Mr Adams has pointed towards more telemovies, rather than returning to the more traditional episodic television format.
“They’re certainly different, but we feel as though they work better for the story we’re telling,” he said.
Ballarat will again be front and centre during this season, with Lake Wendouree playing a spiritual part in the show.
“The lake has always been a special place, it was for Lucien (Craig McLachlan’s charater), and it still is for Jean.”
“We’ve spent over half a decade in Ballarat, and other than the occasional complaints when we shut down Lydiard Street, Ballarat has always been great to us,” laughed Mr Adams.
“There is so much beautiful history and heritage buildings around, it’s really a perfect setting for a show like ours.”
Fans of the show should be sure to keep their ears to the pavement, waiting for the upcoming announcement of the telemovie’s release, and potential further continuation of the series.
