In the twenty20 encounter, Carlton-Brunswick was sent into bat by Ballarat and made that opportunity count, hitting 1-147.
Nicole Edwards taking the only wicket while Renee Moffitt was the most economical of the bowlers.
In the run chase, it was Moffitt that led the charge with an outstanding performance.
The opener made 82 and was the backbone of the innings. She fell four runs short of the victory, being caught off a shot that looked as if it was heading to the boundary.
In the final over, the Bolts required four runs. With one ball remaining, they needed one run. Edwards calmly picked the gap and her and batting partner Alyssa Lucas (20*) dashed home for a memorable single.
Skipper Rachael Matthews was extremely proud of her group, stoked with how a new team banded together in such tense moments.
“She (Moffitt) was on fire,” Matthew said.
“So proud of the girls. They’ve all held together really well as a team and everyone has jelled together really quick.
“For a team that’s never played together, to compose themselves like that is unbelievable”
Ballarat will play fellow undefeated side Hoppers Crossing at Eastern Oval on Sunday.
