He says it is not just about racing. “It’s about having more people across the community riding.”
Canny has succeeded Sam Palanca, who served as president for three years.
The club has grown to 350 members across five disciplines – BMX, road, mountain bike, track and cyclocross.
He said as well as catering for the needs of existing and prospective club members, he saw a role in fostering cycling from both sporting and recreational views.
The club will principally concentrate on domestic competition.
While it will again host the state masters, elite and para road race and time trial titles next year, BSSC will not run a Christmas track carnival or criterium carnival over summer.
The carnival was a lead into the national championships this year, but the return of the bay classic has left no room on the calendar.
