However, the former Rupertswood players are this time making the crosstown journey to Ballarat Football League side Sunbury.
The Brennans are the first signings for new Lions coach Travis Hodgson.
They are making the move from St Albans in the Western Region league – ironically the club which swooped on the Sunbury quartet of David Kovacevic, Adam Short, Tom Donoghue and Ben Said for the 2018 season.
Hodgson said the Lions were rapt to get the Brennans on board.
“We’ve identified the key posts as an area we have to improve in, and having Leigh and Ben definitely stiffens up our spine.
“Leigh will help us connect between half back and half forward.
“Ben has the ability to play key back or swing forward and impact,” he said.
Hodgson said the Brennans would also add experience on and off the field.
The Brennans have spent the past three years playing side-by-side at St Albans, with Leigh joining Ben at the WRFL division one club in 2016 after a distinguished career with Rupertswood in the VAFA and Riddell District league.
Leigh is one of Rupertswood’s most decorated players over the past decade, with his move St Albans his first venture away from the club where he played 200 senior games and spent time as captain.
He played in two VAFA premierships, was named in the VAFA division one team of the year and was VAFA division one leading goalkicker before the Sharks shifted to the RDFL in 2013.
He represented the RDFL and earned selection in the RDFL team of the year, and on the club front was named full-forward in its team of the decade.
In addition to the arrival of the Brennans, Sunbury has like Melton and Melton South been announcing a steady flow of re-signings via social media in the lead-up to pre-season training.
With retention a high priority for Hodgson as he looks to lift Sunbury back into the finals, Sunbury has announced the re-signing of the likes of captain Andrew Duhau, Greg Hay, and brothers Nathan and Reece Wood.
Hodgson said the vast majority of last year’s list had re-committed for another season.
Sunbury missed the finals for the first time this year since joining the BFL in 1997.
Hodgson has moved from BFL rival Bacchus Marsh to take over from Ben Jordan at Clarke Oval.
