However this hasn’t stopped a few residents from parking illegally.
At 11am there were over 100 empty parking spaces however some commuters avoided them for an unknown reason, in one case blocking an entire driving lane.
The 200 new spaces have been a long time coming for Wendouree Station with the initial funding for the upgrade coming in 2015.
Commuters had been hard pressed to find a park at the station, forcing them to get creative when it comes to searching for a place to leave their cars, often forcing them to parking on footpaths and over pedestrian crossings.
Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight is excited about the new addition saying in a statement, “More and more people are catching the train on the Ballarat Line, and these new car parking spaces will help to meet the continued demand for parking and ensure people can easily access their local station.”
As well as the extra parking, new lighting and CCTV cameras have been installed to increase commuter safety.
