As team members from Ballarat City Honda and Subaru started training to Run for a Cause, dealer principal Phillip Ingram noticed lunches and snacks organically becoming healthier options.
“They are trying to eat healthier and they’re becoming more conscious about what they’re eating. One of the boys has even started meal prep for the week on a Sunday,” Mr Ingram said.
“A few of the team have been training together and encouraging each other. They talk about it and, if someone can’t go one night, they encourage them to go for a run that night.”
Mr Ingram has been impressed with the response from staff volunteering to get running or walking in the event, with about two-thirds taking up the challenge.
Those not making the move have been supporting those who will – just like they all did for one mechanic who completed Around the Bay in he Day cycling event last month.
Plus, having a goal encouraged the team to all think about adding a little more exercise to their day.
Run for a Cause is the inaugural mass run and walk event for The Ballarat Foundation, filling the void for what was Run Ballarat.
Each year Run for a Cause will change its social cause in focus. This first year is raising awareness and money to tackle food insecurity across the region with one in eight Ballarat people access food relief each year.
Entries will support the Food Bank Appeal and the event’s food security charity partners.
Mr Ingram said the event was a fun way for the business to get out and give back to the community.
Run for a Cause will feature five and 10-kilometre runs, a 5km family walk and a 1km children’s dash. Mr Ingram, who is a runner, is looking forward to the flat course which will be fast for experienced runners and great for beginners. The start and finish precinct is in Victoria Park and the course will pass Lake Wendouree.
Run for a Cause is on November 18.
