Weir combined with stable jockey John Allen to claim the group 1 $2m Victoria Derby with Extra Brut at Flemington on Saturday.
Remarkably it was the first time the record-breaking Weir had been represented in the three-year-old classic, with Extra Brut one of two runners he sent around.
As well as another accolade for Weir, Extra Brut also took Allen’s career in the saddle to a new high.
Allen arrived from Ireland seven years and joined the Weir stable looking for more opportunities as a jumps jockey.
He achieved that and has gone onto being a multiple group 1-winning jockey – enjoying the ride of his life with the Weir juggernaut.
Weir heaped praise on Allen after watching Extra Brut ($10) produce a last-to-first staying performance to win from Stars of Carrum ($18), with Chapada ($16) third.
"It's a real team effort," Weir said.
"It's great that the owners stuck solid with Johnny. It shows what class of a rider he is.
"They all work hard at home, but out of all the jockeys he works extra hard.
"He's there every day doing the trackwork and helping us out. It's great for him to be a part of it. I'm rapt," Weir said.
Allen was elated with the win. "He rounded them up in a matter of strides," he said.
"I thought I got to the front way too soon, but all credit to him, he toughed it out. Unbelievable.”
With a $1.2m pay day, Extra Brut took his earnings to $1.422m to go with his four wins from just six career starts.
Weir now takes aim at capturing his second Melbourne Cup.
Having won with Prince of Penzance in 2015, he has the imported Red Cardinal engaged.
Weir started Saturday with two Cup contenders, but Japanese import Tosen Basil was ruled out midway through the day and not among final acceptors.
Red Cardinal joined the Weir after finishing 11th in last year’s Melbourne Cup and has had five starts this preparation.
