City Oval’s Michelle Tait, Sandi Grano, Janine Roberts and Helen Sculley are Ballarat District Bowls Division women’s fours championships for the second year in a row.
They defeated Jan Gordan, Margaret Drake, Pat Birch and Joan Dunn (Sebastopol) in a nail-biting 14-11 final.
City Oval progressed the final off a bye at Ballarat East.
The Sebastopol four had to work much harder – defeating Central Wendouree’s Joy Adams, Marg. Wilkins, Meryl Holloway and Lyn Kelly in a tight semi-final.
City Oval and Sebastopol were level after 13 ends.
City Oval took two shots on the next end and then Sebastopol bounced back to tie up the scores again.
Tait, Grano, Roberts and Sculley finally got away with three shots on end 16.
The City Oval combination now contests the region final in February.
WITH BDBD weekend pennant taking a week off, here is summary as to where divisions two to nine sit after six rounds:
Division 2: Midlands Golf is clear on top from City Oval and Avenue. Fourth-placed Linton looms – 147 shots up.
Division 3: Buninyong heads the table undefeated. BMS, Ballarat and Ballan round out
the top four. The leading three clubs would like to win this division to bridge the gap to their top team.
Division 4: Country-based clubs dominate with Smeaton, Bungaree and Linton locked in a great battle.
Division 5: Sebastopol is unbeaten with a massive 205 shots up. Daylesford, Buninyong and City Oval round out the four.
Division 6: Country clubs are again doing well with Creswick and Learmonth one-two. Midlands and Smeaton round out the four.
Division 7: Clunes makes the pace from Ballarat North, Bungaree and Sebastopol – well clear of the other four sides.
Division 8: Linton and Ballarat have cleared away, sitting on 167 and 203 shots up respectively.
Division 9: Mt Xavier, Waubra and Ballarat fill the top three spots, but should be wary of Smeaton.
