The ‘Dob in a Dealer’ campaign is being launched today in Ballarat as part of a nation-wide program funded by the Federal Government to stop Australia’s supply chain of illicit drugs including methylamphetamine (ice), cocaine, MDMA, heroin and cannabis.
Crime Stoppers Victoria CEO Erika Owens said in a statement community assistance is key in taking down criminals and organised crime gangs responsible for the manufacture and supply of these drugs.
“Criminal drug related activity is not only costing millions of dollars in healthcare and law enforcement, but it is tragically and unnecessarily costing human lives,” she said.
“We know that information from the community helps to solve crime, we see it every day at Crime Stoppers, so please get behind this campaign and report what you know.”
Inspector Daniel Davison of the Victoria Police agreed with Ms Owens’ comments, saying that a huge responsibility falls on the community to help eliminate the scourge of drug dealers.
“The smallest piece of information can make a difference, disrupt organised crime and stop the harm drugs bring. A safe community is one that cares,” he said.
“Care for your friends, family and mates by calling through suspected drug dealers to Crime Stoppers Victoria.”
If you have any information about drug trafficking or manufacturing, you are urged to contact your local police station, or submit an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visiting www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/.
