The GovHub building – a five-storey design which will house 600 government workers relocated from Melbourne, as well as another 400 from Ballarat – will start going up from Wednesday January 9.
Armstrong Street North will be a one-way street between Mair Street and Market Street for the entirety of the two year construction with no northbound traffic, to allow for heavy vehicle entry.
Despite reduced car parking at the Ballarat Library, Ballarat mayor Samantha McIntosh said the “long-term investment will far outweigh these short-term disruptions”.
“We understand some users may feel disrupted by the works, but we are very fortunate that the Ballarat Library is not our only library.”
Construction will take place between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, 7am and 3.30pm on Saturday, and no noisy works occurring before 9am on Saturday.
