With megaphones on their heads, this pair want you to think outside the (soap)box.
Artists Marg Dobson and Heather Horrocks – or the ‘Pike-Lets’ behind the lines of the Eureka tale – stationed themselves in Police Lane on Wednesday to drum up voices to contribute to Ballarat’s Creative City Strategy.
Ms Horrocks said she believed a “creative response to the creative strategy was absolutely mandatory”.
“Economic development people go out for business lunches, we make (embarrassments) of ourselves in public,” Ms Horrocks said. “It’ll be great to caters for the new, exciting 21st century stuff, but also dig back down and say the glory of Ballarat is its history.”
Ms Dobson said there was a “whole groundswell of artist activity here, and if the city strategy can help bring people together, what a wonderful thing that is.”
City of Ballarat said there had been 13 formal submissions in this phase of consultation, with 73 submissions overall.
Feedback can be given at mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au/creative-city before February 1.
