Ballarat Yacht Club is hosting the two-day Victorian Hansa Championships, which provide an ideal preparation for the nationals in Perth.
About 20 boats with crew of all ages are expected to compete across four fleets – Liberty, 303 singles and doubles and 2.3.
The regatta begins with training and coaching programs on Friday, which lead into the championships on Saturday and Sunday.
Championship races are expected to range from 20 to 40 minutes in duration, which will be largely dictated by conditions.
Racing begins at 11am on each day, with morning and afternoon sessions.
Sailing on Saturday will be part of a Lake Wendouree water sports doubleheader, with the Ballarat Rowing Association regatta taking place at the same time.
Sailing will be confined to a course immediately next to the Ballarat Yacht Club.
Australian Hansa Class Association was established in 2005 as the Australian Access Class Association and is affiliated with Australian Sailing.
The objectives of the inclusive class include promoting and developing Hansa class racing for people of all ages and abilities, including sailors with disabilities.
Ballarat has a strong Hansa fleet across all divisions, with BYC legend Charlie Weatherly the reigning national Liberty champion.
The club also representatives had in the 303 singles and doubles, and 2.3 classes at the nationals.
