A MOTORCYCLIST in his 40s was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a single vehicle collision in Newtown, south of Ballarat overnight.

The man is believed to have come off his bike on Stickland Road just before 10.30am.
Ambulance Victoria said this morning the man has believed to have slid along the ground.
He suffered cuts and abrasions to his head and face and was also complaining of soreness is his ribs and arms.
Initially there were concerns that he may need to be airlifted to hospital, however, he was able to stabilised and was taken to Ballarat Base.
This accident comes less than 36 hours after a motorcyclist was killed on the Western Freeway, taking the state’s road toll to 11, the same as at the same time last year.
