Coliban Ward councillor Sebastian Klein tendered his resignation at Hepburn Shire Council’s Ordinary Meeting of Council at Creswick’s Doug Lindsay Reserve in December 2018.
Cr Klein is continuing to receive a full councillor allowance until a new representative is elected to the position.
At the time of his resignation, Cr Klein said the decision to stand down was not an easy one for him to make and was due to his commencing a full-time job with the Moreland Energy Foundation in Melbourne, where he now lives.
Current councillors are two years into their four year terms.
Cr Klein said it was time for him to focus on his personal development and that he would not be able to continue to do his role justice if he stayed on as the representative for Trentham in concurrence with his new role in Melbourne.
Cr Klein has been a member of Hepburn Shire Council for 10 years and has driven many projects on sustainability, childcare and public transport.
He served as mayor for the 2011-12 and 2016-17 terms.
Nominations for candidates will open on Thursday, February 21 and close the following Tuesday on February 26.
The by-election will be completed entirely by post.
Ballot papers will be mailed to the 2000 voters on the Coliban Ward electoral roll between March 12 and 14.
