The Mt Clear batsman smashed 100 off 101 balls as Ballarat successfully chased down Bendigo District’s 8-270 at Wendouree’s CE Brown Reserve.
Batting at number four, Burns hit nine fours and two sixes before he was stumped.
His dismissal left Ballarat at 7-232 and with plenty of work still to do.
Jonah Healey then kept the scoring going and guided the home side to victory in the final over of the day.
Healy ended unbeaten on 53 from 48 balls (five fours, two sixes) and was there as Ballarat managed around 10-per-over for the last 10 overs to win the game.
Earlier in the run chase, Nathan Yates made an important 70 (eight fours, four sixes) at number three.
Ballarat Cricket Association’s focus now narrows in on Melbourne Country Week, which kicks off on Monday, February 18.
The BCA will be part of division two competition this season and will open up the campaign with a clash against Shepparton at Schramms Reserve in Doncaster.
