The Ballarat Cycle Classic event will kicks off in the village precinct at Lake Wendouree this Sunday, with lots of fun to be had on and off the bike.
The event raises much needed funds for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute. The Institute is named after Ballarat teenager Fiona Elsey, who lost her battle with cancer in 1991, but not before inspiring her doctor, Ballarat paediatric oncologist and haematologist Professor George Kannourakis and the community. Together, they helped make Fiona's dream of a regional cancer research centre a reality.
You can support the quest for a cure by choosing from:
- Protect 50km, 60km, 85km, and 100km road rides.
- PETstock Family Lake Walk and Run (which are pet friendly).
- BJT Mountain Bike Challenge of 40km and 50km circuits.
- Eclipse Ford 28km Family Ride and 6km Lake Ride.
Lakeside there will be plenty of fun after the ride and for spectators, with the village precinct home to a family fun day full of kids activities, live music, a bar and food.

One hundred per cent of all registration fees from this event are donated to the research being conducted at the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
Cancer is something that touches many Australian families. Given current rates, it is expected that one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.
With more than 50 internationally recognised scientific publications, the Institute’s research into ovarian cancer, immunology, leukemia and histiocytic diseases is unique and internationally regarded. The non-government funded research centre currently has nine PhD students from Federation University and 10 senior scientific staff.
This is a great safe event for families, with the inside lane of Wendouree Parade closed to all traffic and parking from 6am - 3.30pm.
Online registrations will be open right up to the event at ballaratcycleclassic.com.au. Alternatively, last minute registrations and event packs can be collected on Saturday 2pm - 6pm and from 7am prior to the event onsite on Windmill Drive, Lake Wendouree. Parking is available free of charge at North Gardens from 7am.
