A man in his 20s had a lucky escape late on Sunday night after crashing his car before allegedly fleeing near shops at Buninyong.

The car crashed through a bollard at the Midland Highway and Warrenheip Street roundabout, ending up on its side in front of Learmonth Street shopfronts with its roof ripped off.
The car appeared to be heading north on Warrenheip Street.
Witnesses said they saw the man run from the wreck.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed a man in his 20s was treated at the scene but not taken to hospital, adding police were involved.
