The fire was started in a small car parked in a driveway and quickly spread to a porch which had a couch sitting on it nearby. However, fortunately fire crews were able to douse the flames before they could spread any further.
The car, a 2000 model Volkswagen, was destroyed.
A Ballarat City CFA spokesman said crews were becoming frustrated at the amount of deliberately lit car fires recently.
“It’s incredibly dangerous,” the spokesman said.
“You’re dealing with fuel which can easily explode which not only puts the people who are doing this in danger, but also those living nearby and also emergency services who are forced to put it out.”
It’s been a bad month for burned out cars.
A car parked in Eureka Street was torched early on Monday morning, while a truck stolen from a Sebastopol painting business was also found burned out in the Canadian Forest.
An Audi was taken from an Errard Street address on Friday and was found burned out in Black Hill on Saturday night.
A Ballarat CIU spokesperson said at this stage last night’s fire did not appear linked to others in recent days.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
