The woman has been transferred to hospital after suffering a medical episode.
Witnesses to the incident said the woman was driving a white hatchback north up Doveton Street North near Aldi when they heard the car turn off at speed before coming to rest on the train lines.
Fortunately there were no trains coming at the time.
A witness told The Courier that he had smashed the driver's side window in order to let the woman out.
Police conducted traffic patrols at the site, but the road remained open while the car was removed from the scene.
