Music fit for the stars
The Ballarat Symphony Orchestra commences its 2019 season with 'Fireworks' - a diverse and colourful program of works by renowned composers Handel, Grainger, Holst and Van Suppe.
The centrepiece of the March program is Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. The ever popular celebratory music of Handel once conducted on a barge in the Thames didn't get off to an auspicious start. The very first performance of the piece in 1748 was rained upon; the fireworks designed to accompany the music misfired, the pavilion and ladies' dresses caught fire, and there were injuries to nearby soldiers. But the music was a great success and under the baton of the BSO's principal conductor, Gyula Csezko will undoubtedly delight again. A Sunday afternoon musical treat.
Tickets $35/30/15. Children under 12 free. Tickets at the door or contact the centre on 5338 0980
2.30pm Wendouree Centre For performing Arts.
