The Vikings were no match for Lalor United, which eventually prevailed 4-2 in the round one clash at HR Uren Reserve in Thomastown.
Sebastopol did claw back the margin with goals from Ed North and Simo Mitrovic, but it was not enough to overcome the damage done inside the first 45 minutes.
North scored his goal in the 65th minute before Mitrovic, who came on as a substitute, scored in the 88th.
"It was a little bit too easy for them to expose us in behind in the first half and we needed to be more clinical up front ourselves," Vikings coach Michael Goodman told the club's Facebook page. "But if you look at the possession stats and the chances created, there's only one team looking to play football today and the boys know their performance belies the result. I'm sure we'll win more games than we lose based on that display today."
