The man, who The Courier cannot identify for legal reasons, was sentenced by Judge Frank Gucciardo in the County Court in Melbourne on Thursday.
Aged in his late 20s, the man was handed a new total effective sentence of 10 years' jail with a non-parole period of six-and-a-half years.
He was currently serving an eight-year jail sentence, with a non-parole period of six years, for similar offending against a different girlfriend in 2015.
In February, a Ballarat jury found the man guilty of two counts of rape relating to an incident in Delacombe some time between November 1 and December 31, 2012.
The jury was told the complainant told the man she could not have sex with him because of an infection. She pushed the man away but he persisted and sexually penetrated her orally.
Later the same night, the complainant went to bed and woke up with the man sexually penetrating her.
Throughout the five-day trial the man denied raping the woman.
During sentencing, Judge Gucciardo said the experience of rape was inevitably humiliating in a deeply traumatising invasion, and it had a profound impact upon the victim.
He said the victim, who thought she had control over her body, was in an extremely vulnerable state when the man abused her.
"She remains fearful, lacking in trust in personal relations. She is hypervigilance, feels shame, she has horrible memories which will stay with her and that the false but recurring feeling that she deserves the treatment you meated out to her, and I take her victim impact statement into account," Judge Gucciardo said.
He said he took the man's personal circumstances into account, but he appeared "not have understood or had little insight into your conduct".
"You are to be sentenced as a serious sexual offender and in my view this should be some consequent accumulation between your current sentence and this earlier similar offending," the judge said.
The man's sentence was dated back to February 2018 and the court declared he had already served 457 days.
He will be a registered sex offender for life.
