The Greater Western Victoria Rebels have come up 14-points short on the road against the Gold Coast Suns Academy, partly due to a key injury sustained early in the game.

Ruck Patrick Glanford turned his ankle two minutes into the match-up and missed the rest of the game. Coach Mark Greig said the injury slowed the Rebels substantially.
"He's been one of the league's top ruckman in regards to his hit-out work, it was a big loss," he said.
The Rebels went into the contest with the Suns short-handed, missing top-aged players Mathew Lloyd, Jed Hill and James Cleaver. Greig says there were positives to take away from his team's performance while missing so much talent.
"It gives us extreme confidence, we were missing three 19-year-old's and our number one ruckman. It gives the young blokes a great opportunity to step up."
The Rebels will play their next game at home against the Northern Knights on Sunday at 1pm.

Elsewhere the GWV Rebels girls broken their six-game losing streak with a one-point win over the Oakleigh Chargers at Avalon Airport Oval.
The Rebels hit the front with two minutes remaining through the boot of Lilly Condon take the final lead.
They will play their final game of the season next week at home against the top-of-the-table Northern Knights at 11.15am on Sunday
