Jake Owen and Liam Carter will lead the Ballarat Football League into battle against Hampden in the AFL Victoria Community Championships at Mars Stadium on Saturday.
Coach Chris Stuhldreier announced after the Navy Blues' last training session at the City Oval on Thursday night that Owen and Carter would share the captaincy role .
It is a neat fit given Owen (Bacchus Marsh) and Carter (Melton) know each other well, having been former teammates at Williamstown in the VFL.
Carter is still on the Seagulls' list.
Each also play similar roles at club level, where as swingmen they have been used forward and back.
Owen plays more often than not in attack for the Cobras and will find himself in the forward half against the Hampden league.
Carter will play back as he has been for the Bloods.
Stuhldreier was forced to make one change to his final squad in naming his side.
East Point young gun Mickitja Rotumah-Onus will be missing owing to an ankle injury.
He has been replaced by Lake Wendouree's Bailey Edwards, who goes straight into the line-up to added pace to the on-ball division.
Jake McQueen (East Point) could not be considered after being called up by Essendon to play in the VFL.
Stuhldreier said with the preparation completed, it was now up to the players to convert the commitment they had shown on the training track and in putting up their hands to play, and deliver on match day.
The BFL is looking to bounce back after losing to Goulburn Valley at the MCG last year and climb back up the rankings.
Stuhldreier, who is in the coaching role for the first year, will have the distinction of having two sons in the side - Bacchus Marsh teammates Ryley and Nick Stuhldreier.
Eight of the competition's 11 clubs have representatives, with Ballarat, Darley and Sebastopol missing out.
Sunbury has the biggest representation with five players. while Bacchus Marsh and Melton each has four in the 22.
Hampden league coach and Brisbane Lions great Jonathon Brown has selected a team dominated by players from powerhouse Koroit, which has won five premierships in a row.
Nine of his 22 play with Koroit.
The best under-19 players from across the BFL will line up in an East v West contest as a curtain-raiser.
Ballarat and Hampden will also do battle in senior netball at Mars Stadium.
