I'm Nivash and I turned 11 on May 19. I am writing this letter to ask you why I'm not allowed to live in Australia? I arrived in Australia and celebrated my fifth birthday in Dandenong and now I'm in Ballarat. I was homeless for two weeks and had to stay at a friend's house. We are not citizens yet but we are better than some citizens who don't respect any values and their reason is "I'm a citizen".
I enjoy playing with Lego with my sisters and my ambition is to become a cardiologist in Australia. I go to Black Hill Primary School and have lots of friends and my favourite subject is science because we get to experiment! I love reading any types of books. I don't know how to read and write in Tamil and I can't speak Tamil well. I don't have any friends there.
I think my family and I deserve a place in Australia. We can't go to see the doctor because the government stopped our Health Care card and Dad and Mum aren't allowed to work, but Dad volunteers for the State Emergency Service and Mum volunteers at the aged care centre. My sisters and I entertain the residents as well as me reading books to them.
I enjoy helping people!
If you ask me what I'm grateful for I would say coming to Australia, my family and last, but not least, Ballarat and the people of Ballarat.
Mum and Dad can't sleep at night and Mum's eyes are red in the morning.
I have high hopes that you will respond to this letter because we are happy together but Mum and Dad are sad on the inside and afraid our lives may be ruined.
I really hope you respond to this.
Nivash, aged 11.
P.S. Thank you for reading.
The faith to help others
Congratulations Scott Morrison on being elected Prime Minister of Australia. You have declared to the nation that it was a "miracle". Like you, I am of the Christian faith and am aware of the many miracles of Jesus Christ.
Justice, love and compassion are the basis of our faith and I feel it is now in your hands to be enable the miracle that hundreds of people languishing on Manus Island and Nauru have been waiting for, for six years.
Bring their broken souls and bodies to Australia to be healed and to lie with loving, caring citizens. Restore their hope by closing all detention centres. Tarry no longer.
Diane Collacott, Ballarat.
