The budget details $209 million to build 1000 new public housing properties across Victoria, including Ballarat.
Uniting Ballarat executive officer Annette-Kelly Egerton said Uniting broadly welcomed the budget, but the investment in public housing would not be enough to meet demand.

"The government commitment is to build 1000 new public housing properties across Victoria, in the next three years, with 106 built in the next financial year. But we know that this will not meet the current needs of Victorians waiting for social housing," she said.
"We have 142 households here in Ballarat waiting for housing to be available. We don't know what the exact plans are for Ballarat over the three years of this building program, but it is unlikely that it will be able to meet the need we see today."
Ms Kelly-Egerton said it was good news the state government would continue to fund the Private Rental Assistance Program which helps transition people out of short-term and crisis accommodation.
Delivering on another election promise, the Victorian budget details $10 million to establish regional fresh food distribution hubs in Ballarat and Morwell.

Foodbank Victoria chief executive Dave McNamara said the food relief organisation was delighted to see funding for the expansion of Foodbank's programs in schools and the establishment of regional Foodbank hubs in the budget.
"A Foodbank Hub in Ballarat will support more people experiencing food insecurity by filling a large gap in the provision of food relief to the Grampians region, where an estimated 41,000 people experienced food insecurity in the last 12 months. Currently, the Grampians only receive around one per cent of food distributed by Foodbank," he said.
Foodbank Victoria has been in the planning stage of the business case for the last two months.
