It was his second trial of crimes alleged to have taken place while he was Archbishop of Melbourne during the 1990s, after an earlier jury were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
The verdict of the jury at the Melbourne County Court last year was not made public until February this year due to a ban on media coverage imposed by Chief Judge Peter Kidd.
George Pell's legal team subsequently applied for leave to appeal.
