As the Ballarat Miners gear-up to play its final game at the Minerdome, the city of Ballarat is getting ready to usher in a new age of basketball.
Participation rates have never been higher, and interest in the game both at a local and professional level are as healthy as they have ever been.
And with a $24 million multi-purpose indoor sports facility now open, not to mention the possibility of the first Miners championship in 18 years, the stage is set for a new golden age of basketball in Ballarat.
To commemorate the shift, The Courier will conduct a series of sit-down interviews with some of the game's local personalities.
For the third episode of the series, The Courier sits down with former Lady Miners player Kym Cassells.
Cassells led the Lady Miners (which later became the Rush) to multiple championships during the 1990s and 2000s.
Growing up in Ballarat, Cassells played her first game at the Minerdome as a junior. And on top of her representative career, played over 1300 games for the Celtic Tigers at club level.
Her memories are too many to count, but we do our best anyway.
Re-live her incredible journey below.
