The young gun reached the century with a treble at Melton on Saturday night.
His wins included two for Ballarat premier trainer Emma Stewart, for whom he has become a regular driver in the latter part of the season.
McGuigan is the sixth driver to reach 100 wins in Victoria this season and has him within striking distance of Kima Frenning, who leads the state concession drivers' premiership table.
He finished third in the title last season with 73 and fifth with 45 in 2016-17.
McGuigan will be looking to add to his already impressive strike rate for Stewart in Ballarat on Friday night.
He has three drives for the stable, including Always Fast in a Breeders Crown Series heat for 3yo colts and geldings, 2200m.
Three heats are being run at Bray Raceway, with Stewart having six starters in the second - Always Fast, Perfect Major, Brevity, Fourbigmen, Out To Play and Struve.
She has one of the series favourites, Demon Delight, in the third heat.
Ballarat and District Trotting Club has 10 races programmed.
Darby McGuigan is not the only young Ballarat district reinsman making waves.
James Herbertson is not far behind him.
The now Lexton-based teenager had a career-best four winners at Bendigo on Tuesday night and is also fast closing in on the century.
He has moved into the 90s with the season ending this month.
He is fourth in the state concession drivers' title. He was fourth on 60 last season..
