The Lakers produced one of the upsets of the season in defeating Redan by 11 points at CE Brown Reserve on Saturday - giving them back-to-back wins.
While Lake Wendouree's finals hopes have been long gone, they grabbed the opportunity to make an impact on the way the finals match-ups are likely to shape up.
Lakers denied Redan top position and most likely a top two finish, which carries a double chance.
Redan dropped from second to fifth and now looks bound for an elimination final.
The shock Redan loss opened the door for Sebastopol to retake second after the Burra denied Melton by 19 points at MacPherson Park.
Sebastopol began the day fifth.
Darley was the other big mover in a finals-like 14-point win over East Point at Darley Park.
The Roos were well on top early - getting a flyer to lead by 34 points at quarter time.
They still led by three goals at half-time, but then Darley made its move.
After mixing their form for several weeks, the Devils have signalled they are well and truly in the thick of the premiership race again.
Despite the loss, East Point remains on top and with a bye in the last home and away round, and a superior percentage will be minor premier.
The battle for second remains open with East Point one of five teams on 48 points in what has to be one of the tightest BFL competitions ever.
In other games, North Ballarat City delivered Ballarat another heart-breaking, with three points the margin at Alfredton.
Bacchus Marsh made light work of Melton South, getting home by by 117 points at Maddingley Park.
