It proved so again on Saturday in the team's 2-2 draw with arch-rivals Point Cook at Saltwater Reserve.
The Vikings established themselves as front-runners early in the contest after a strike from captain Marcus Lynch found the back of the net. It didn't take long before Point Cook found an equaliser, but the Vikings regained the advantage off the boot of Liam Dawson.
Vikings interim head coach Dan Hollingworth believed his side played the better football.
"We are probably more disappointed than they will be, we probably did enough to win the game, but didn't get there in the end," he said.
The Vikings had two chances to steal the game late in the match with the ball in front of goal. Hollingworth lamented the lost opportunities, saying his charges weren't able to capitalise.
"We had two really good opportunities in the final minutes to get the win but we just didn't cash-in on those chances," he said.
"We are creating the chances, but we are just not finishing them off."
The Vikings will play Williamstown this week in the club's second last game of the year.
