The Bureau of Meteorology issued the severe weather warning on Thursday morning for people living in South West and Central Victoria, specifically for people living in Ballarat, Daylesford, Kyneton, Portland, Warrnambool and Hamilton.
The strong and gusty northerly winds will develop today over elevated areas with damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 kilometres per hour and peak gusts of around 90 kilometres per hour possible in western and central Victoria, mainly around elevated areas.
Winds are expected to pick up during the morning, peak during the early afternoon and then again later this evening.
The State Emergency Service (SES) has advised people to:
- Move cars under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around the house, yard and balcony
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
