Tallent, a longtime outspoken anti-doping campaigner, was promoted to second spot in the 50km at the 2011 and 2013 world titles after Sergey Bakulin and Mikhail Ryzhov were banned.

It came several years after he was lifted from the silver-medal position to gold in the 50km at the 2012 London Olympics when another Russian, Sergey Kirdyapkin, returned a positive test.

Tallent received the medals before the second day of action at the world championships in Doha.

"It would have been nice to have been here competing, so it's nice to be receiving medals from championships gone by and it sort of makes up for the medal moments I would have had at those championships," said the 34-year-old Tallent.

He still hopes to resume his career at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after several seasons blighted by injuries.

"I still want to go to Tokyo and be a medal hope, so it's building towards that," said Tallent.

"My fitness is getting better and I think my hamstring injuries are behind me."

The Russian athletics federation has been banned from a second straight world titles this year due to evidence of doping practices.

But 30 Russian athletes with no history of doping have been allowed to compete in Doha as individuals.

The team's participation at the Tokyo Olympics also remains under threat.
