Burgess's knock of 85 led the chase for Ballarat in its pursuit of Golden Point's 196-run total.
The English opener proved almost as capable with the ball in hand, finishing with bowling figures of 2/31.
Meanwhile Darley kicked-off its season strongly with a five-wicket victory over last season's grand final winner East Ballarat.
Harry Killoran led the charge during the run chase with Darley winning with three overs to spare.
Elsewhere Naps/Sebas defeated North Ballarat by four wickets at Napoleons Turf. Mt Clear chased down Brown Hill with six wickets to spare, and Wendouree thumped Bunninyong by 59 runs.
