The first Smythesdale Community Arts and Music Fiesta will be held on the green opposite the hotel, and the adjoining The Well community centre with a focus on creativity, history and coming together.
Organiser and local artist Barry Wemyss, who organised a similar event about six years ago, said he was keen to organise an arts event in the northern part of the Golden Plains Shire after the council dropped its support of a local arts trail.
The result is the fiesta, with five bands playing music on the green from 11am to 4pm, with artisan market stalls and food trucks.
Open mic music and open mic poetry will run at the Courthouse Hotel and Thru the Gate cafe, and well-known artists including Vida Pearson, Ruby and Peter Pilven, Stella Clarke and others will exhibit 2D and 3D artworks in mediums like painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture.
Travis Price will conduct a mural workshop giving community members the opportunity to learn new skills, Smythesdale Petanque Club will play to the public and offer tuition to spectators, members of the Smythesdale Sketch Club will draw, paint and offer tips to the public, and members of the Ballarat Volkswagon Club will display their loved vehicles.
Two short documentary films relating to the history of our early Chinese communities will feature at The Well, together with a display of Chinese artifacts, and members of the Woady Historical Society will attend in costume and open the historic courthouse, gaol, and stables.
"We're trying to offer something for everyone and we really encourage community participation," Mr Wemyss said.
The Smythesdale Community Arts and Music Fiesta will run from 11am to 4pm on Sunday October 20.
