The primary area this growth has come from is junior netball, which the Wendouree Netball Association had been without for over a decade.
Association manager Jordan O'Keefe told The Courier the association has been able to accommodate over 200 new junior players since the opening of the six new courts at BSEC.
"The move into the extra six courts at the BSEC and the use of more courts and extra days of competition has allowed Wendouree Netball to activate a number of programs for the growing number of participants in netball," he said.
"Wendouree Netball now has around 200 new junior new netballers from ages five to 15 years.
"To have a non-existent junior netball presence in the area previously and to see this level of growth so quickly is an enormous step into establishing long term competitions."
BSEC has also benefited local competition for Basketball Ballarat, with the increased court availability allowing more teams to compete each night and helping eliminate late games on weeknights.
Basketball manager Matt Newton elaborated on how the organisation has dealt with the challenges.
"The competition continues to grow in Ballarat with the 2019/20 Summer season having 528 active teams spanning over seven days of competition," he said.
"This sees over 250 games being played each week spread across the 13 courts available between the Minerdome and BSEC.
"This season alone we have seen 28 more teams than last which is a recognition of the fantastic facilities on offer to players in the Ballarat and the Western Region.
"Gone are the 10.10pm games of a weeknight and minimal use of 8.10am games on a Saturday or 7pm games which we have seen for seasons gone by. It now allows families to come along, play basketball at a reasonable time and still be able to make plans for the evening."
