Music, dancing, multicultural performances, henna tattoos and delicious traditional food were all on offer as Ballarat's Indian community celebrated the important festival, which symbolises darkness turning in to light.
It's the 12th year that the Ballarat Indian Association has hosted the Diwali celebrations which brings together the whole Indian community and members of the wider Ballarat community who were invited to join in.
Diwali is one of the biggest Indian festivals and is celebrated around the world.
The festival traditionally symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
During Diwali, revelers don their finest clothes, light the interior and exteriod of their homes with diyas (lamps and candles), offer prayers to Lakshmi, light fireworks, enjoy family feasts and share sweets and gifts.
