VicHealth visited the school on Thursday to hold a workshop with students taking part in Walk to School Month.
"Being such a growth area we have lots of kids who walk, ride and scoot every day ... and even more during Walk to School Month," said acting principal Paula Sprague.
Pupils showed where they live, how they get to school, how long it takes and what hazards they encounter.
"They did identify a couple of issues: Cuthberts Rd is exceptionally busy, especially the roundabout between our school and St Thomas More. Between the two schools we have about 1000 children in this area, then of course at the end of Cuthberts Rd you've got another 1500 at Ballarat High and 400 at Ballarat Specialist School so for the children and young people in our area who walk and ride, it's very very busy," Ms Sprague said.
"The other issue is all the new estates that are popping up to the west of us, and Dyson Drive. Parents won't let children cross that road. The children also identified it's so busy trying to get in to the flow of traffic from side streets that drivers don't look or give way to children."
VicRoads will analyse the student data and provide decals for footpaths in the area for term one next year identifying places that are safe to cross.
