A young woman, believed to be in her early 20s, is believed to have driven from Ararat on a spare tyre when it overheated and the car burst into flames on the off ramp from the Western Freeway at Miners Rest.
The black Mazda 2 was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters from Miners Rest and Wendouree responded.
The woman escaped the car and was not injured.
Multiple police and an ambulance also attended the scene.
Miners Rest captain Richard Ross said the speed limit while driving on a spare tire was 80 km/h and spare tyres should not be driven on for long distances.
Drivers are urged to lower their speed while emergency services clear the scene.
