But the Bulls are sure glad he is after he stood tall with a maiden first class ton while high profile teammates Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuscagne fell cheaply around him on Monday.

At stumps on day three, WA were 4-39 in their second dig, still 40 runs behind the hosts after ex-Test batsman Shaun Marsh went for eight.

Queensland were ensured a first innings lead thanks to Street, who got a last minute nod after ex-Test opener Matt Renshaw pulled out with a stomach bug.

After Renshaw spent Friday night on a hospital drip, Street was given the green light to open and stepped up to stroke an impressive 115 off 308-balls featuring 16 boundaries in just his second Shield match.

All-rounder Jack Wildermuth also impressed with 80.

"It's pretty surreal to be honest. It's kind of pinch me I'm dreaming," Street said.

"But I do have to remind myself that I am here as an injury replacement - I might miss the next game for all I know."

Street's heroics helped Queensland make 411 in their first dig despite losing skipper Khawaja for 32 and Test batsman Labuschagne for a 10-ball duck in reply to WA's 332 opening innings.

After the visitors were sent into bat late on day three, the stage was set for Marsh to again make selectors sit up and take notice after his first innings heroics of 77.

However, young gun Xavier Bartlett (2-13) had other ideas, snaring Marsh caught behind just ahead of stumps to put the hosts in the box seat.

Cameron Gannon had 2-10.

Queensland resumed their first innings on Monday at 1-167 but Khawaja added just two runs to his overnight total before being caught behind off the bowling of allrounder Marcus Stoinis (3-50).

And when Labuschagne was trapped in front by Stoinis, the Bulls were 3-173.

But Street made the most of his late call-up after Khawaja failed to launch a Test claim while Labuschagne's golden run ended for Queensland after four half centuries and a ton in his past six knocks in one-day and first-class cricket.

While Labuschagne appears a certainty for Australia's first Test against Pakistan starting in Brisbane on November 21, Khawaja will be sweating on his selection.

Khawaja has scored just 59 runs at 11.80 this Shield season in a frustrating first class return since being dumped for the fourth Ashes Test in August.

WA were bowled out for 332 on Sunday, recovering from 2-2 thanks to Marsh's fighting half century and a wagging tail that added 162 for the final three wickets led by allrounder Cameron Green (87 not out).
