The second annual Hopathon will hop off on Saturday. It is a 600-metre run, or hop, with a post-race party of carb-loading and brews at Hop Temple.
Hopathon's Jordan McPhan said it was like a fun run but likely more appealing for those who were not the "running type" - and finishers would get a medal.
Efforts from the inaugural Hopathon raised almost $7500 for Ballarat Health Services' special care nursery. This allowed BHS to purchase two neonatal resuscitation equipment units, which in turn will help the region's tiniest patients to stay in Ballarat rather than being transferred to Melbourne.
"It's vital in giving newborn babies that extra help in their first few days. A little bit of funding goes a long way in providing for local families," Ms McPhan said.
Action hops off Saturday, 11.30am. Live music and festivities in Hop Lane to follow.
The event comes one week before Run For a Cause, also in its second year. Run For a Cause, featuring the region's first half-marathon in almost a decade, is this year highlighting early childhood development.
