Abraham was sent off for the incident in stoppage time of Sunday's match in Freiburg which the home side won 1-0.
Freiburg's Vincenzo Grifo was also shown a red card after a video review for his part in an ensuing melee near the touchline.
The DFB's control committee has reported the incident to the disciplinary panel. A red card means an automatic provisional suspension until a ruling on a possible longer match ban.
Frankfurt also had midfielder Gelson Fernandes dismissed coming up to halftime after a second yellow card.
Due to the looming international break, the teams do not play again until November 23.
