The swordsman was the last man standing after defeating fellow Ballarat competitor Ryan Oliver in the final of the dan open competition on Sunday.
O'Mero won the bout 1-0 in a close affair which featured a knockdown midway through the contest.
Ballarat Kendo Club President Gary Oliver said it was a successful event.
"There was some pretty good competition," he said.
"There were two fighters who fought at the world championships last year in Korea, so for Ballarat to win with such a good line-up on hand was great."
It was the third straight year the event has been held in the city according to Oliver.
Melbourne's Duke Passi was crowned champion of the beginners competition, while Ballarat's Marc Veenstra finished third.
Oliver said the event brought in competitors from all over the country.
