SES crews and tree loppers are keeping busy this afternoon with dozens of trees crashing to the ground across Ballarat as high winds reaching in excess of 90km/h batter the region.

In one of the more serious incidents, a ute driver was lucky to escape injury after a tree crashed onto his vehicle in Wendouree Parade near the corner of Mair Street.
Trees loppers remain on the scene with parts of Wendouree Parade near the Ballarat Yacht Club closed off to traffic.
Other trees have fallen in Dana Street, Drummond Street and Creswick Road in central Ballarat, Barkly Street and York Street in Ballarat East, Forest Street Wendouree, Ryan Street Brown Hill.
There has also been numerous reports of building damage with tiles coming off roofs in the storm.
Residents are asked to remain vigilant as the violent wind storm lashes the region.
The cool change has just hit the Ballarat region with the temperature expected to drop by as much as 18 degrees by 6pm this evening. Winds are expected to turn from the north to the south-west with the cool change and will gradually moderate throughout the afternoon.
