Police allege he smashed a window with a star picket to get at family members who had barricaded themselves in a bedroom.
Jamie Leigh Gill, 32, of Baynes Street, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody until February 17.
His 12 new charges include three counts of recklessly causing injury, five counts of breaching bail, unlawful assault, making a threat to kill, causing criminal damage and stating a false name to police.
The court heard that on Friday night Mr Gill had been drinking at a local tavern before returning to the family home just after midnight.
There he got in a verbal argument with a woman and became agitated and aggressive.
Mr Gill was heard bashing someone and family members ran out of the house to intervene.
But, Mr Gill then punched his brother and his brother's partner several times.
It's alleged Mr Gill then put his hands around his brother's neck and tried to choke him.
While on the ground strangling his brother Mr Gill said he would kill his brother.
Mr Gill's sister also intervened which allowed the others to run back into the house.
The brother then armed himself with a star picket to protect himself and his partner, but Mr Gill grabbed the picket and hit his brother's partner to the head causing bruising and a laceration.
The brother and partner then used a bed to barricade themselves into their bedroom and called emergency police.
Mr Gill used the metal picket to smash a window and enter the bedroom but his sister again intervened and was punched to the head.
Mr Gill got back out the smashed window, was arrested by police but couldn't be interviewed due to his level of intoxication.
When later interviewed by police Mr Gill gave no comment answers but said he couldn't recall how all the blood got on his hands.
The court heard he has seven pages of prior court appearances for offences including manslaughter, recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, theft and threatening and assaulting police.
He has also been on bail nine times since 2000.
On August 17, 2009, Mr Gill was convicted of manslaughter and jailed for 10 years with a minimum eight years to be served before being eligible for parole after the stabbing death of an accounting student in Redan.
Police say they have have grave concerns for the safety of Mr Gill's family members.
He is also currently on two other sets of charged.
On December 3 Mr Gill was released from the Warrnambool police station charged with offences including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving in a dangerous manner, driving while disqualified, driving an unregistered vehicle, committing offences on bail and failing to stop when directed by police.
That was after being bailed on October 24 charged with reckless conduct endangering endangering life, driving in a dangerous manner, unlawful assault and driving an unregistered vehicle.
